Abstract
The objective of the study is to take stock of progress made by major RECs in the implementation of their respective trade liberalization and integration schemes in terms of content and timetable for implementation, successes and difficulties encountered. The study is expected to make concrete proposals in the context of the Abuja Treaty, in particular on coordination, harmonization and rationalization of frameworks and approaches, based on the experience of the RECs, to streamline future action in the process of implementing the provisions of the early */phases of the Abuja Treaty. The intended consumer;of the report are regional economic Communities and the Organization of African Unity (OAU), ECA and the African Development Bank (ADB) through the joint OAU/ECA/ADB secretariat, at their annual forums. The report may also be presented to other ECA and/or OAU organs as it may deem necessary.
