Preparations for and follow-up to regional and international conferences and programmes : Part I

Abstract

This report is divided into two parts. Part I presents the progress report on the international conferences/summits, namely the international Conference on Population and Development; the World Summit for Social Development; the fourth World Conference on Women; and the second United Nations Conference on Human Settlements (Habitat II). Part II covers the mid-term review of the implementation of the Declaration and Program of Action for the Least Developed Countries for the 1990's; the implementation of the United Nations New Agenda for the Development of Africa in the 1990's (UN-NADAF);the. mid-term evaluation of the second United Nations Transport and Communications Decade in Africa (UNTACDA-II) and presents an up-date of the special session of the Organization of African Unity (OAU)Ministers on Africa's economic and social questions.This present paper highlights the salient developments at ICPD.94, examines the common areas of emphasis in the recommendations contained in the Program of Action of the ICPD and the Dakar/Ngor Declaration, and outlines follow-up activities for the implementation of both the Program of Action and the Dakar/Ngor Declaration.
