The primary objective of this report is to present the progress made on the overall implementation of the Abuja Declaration and is the first review on the implementation of the Abuja Declaration to be presented to the Conference. The review is presented in five parts under the goals of the United Nations Decade for Women which are equality, development and peace. Section II of the report, under the rubric theme "equality", reviews legal rights of women and other issues of concern pertaining to women and law, as well as the implementation of international standards by member governments. Section III reviews areas under the theme "development". These areas include education, employment (the role of women in agriculture) and environment. Women in decision-making and their role in conflict resolution are discussed in section IV under the theme "peace". Section V highlights major activities undertaken by ECA to implement the Abuja Declaration and conclusions are given in section VI.
