Abstract
Against a brief discussion of the development objectives, policy framework and development strategies promoted by the various plans of action and initiatives of the last 13 years or so, this paper examines the implications of such dynamic and innovative policy framework and development strategies for education in Africa. This paper takes the view that among others, an appropriate and relevant education system, which is responsive to Africa's socio-economic development objectives, can assist in solving some of Africa's profound developmental problems. The pages that follow discuss the key development strategies and strategic objectives for Africa's development in the 1990s (section II); development strategies and their implications for education (section III); realignment of education with Africa's development strategies (section IV); and the major conclusions and policy options (section V).
