This document is a report on a Study on Food Security in Eastern and Southern African Subregion, it is divided into five parts. Part I presents the purpose of the study. Part II discusses the conceptual frame work of food security in the Eastern and Southern Africa sub-region. Part III examines the existing food security programs in the sub-region. Part IV discusses various food security policies and strategies relating to the marketing systems, food storage and post-harvest losses among other things. Part V aims at strengthening co-operation, co-ordination and harmonization of food security activities. Part six consists of recommendations for strengthening co-operation, co-ordination and harmonization of activities of member states. Some project proposals are outlined for consideration by all member states, ECA, ECA/MULPOC/LUSAKA and other organizations.
