Abstract

The provision of adequate and reliable supplies of energy, in the form both of primary fuels and of electrical energy, is essential to the operation of any modern economy. Prior to 3S7O little formal attention was paid to the provision of energy supplies outside the electrical supply industry, where the lead time for the construction of new generating facilities enforced a measure of demand forecasting and supply planning. Apart from this, oil was cheap and plentiful and could supply all other energy needs.
