Abstract
This document briefly describes the situation and main activities of the institute deformation et de recherché démographiques (IFORD) and the regional institute for population studies (RIPS) during the 1989-1991 biennium and reviews the future prospects of both institutions in the coming two years in light of major developments that have taken place during the period under consideration and whose consequences will determine how the institutes fare in the short and medium terms.
