Report of the first meeting of the executive committee

Abstract

The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa adopted at the ninth session resolution 188(IX) on the institutional machinery of the Commission and established an Executive Committee, comprising the Chairman, the two Vice-Chairmen and the Rapporteur of the session of the Conference of Ministers, two representatives from each sub-region (each office bearer of the Conference of Ministers being regarded as representing the sub-region in which his country was situated), two African members of ECOSOC, one representing the English-speaking and the other French-speaking countries; and two African members of the Governing Council Of UNDP, one representing the English-speaking and the other French-speaking countries. The Executive Committee would to meet at least twice a year. In accordance with that resolution, the Executive -Secretary, was requested to convene the first meeting of the Committee.
