Abstract
The lecture was delivered under the Distinguished Lecture Series of the Nigerian Institute for Social and Economic Research (KISER) at Trenchard Hall, University of Ibadan, from 22 to 24 March 1983. The paper is entitled “Evolution of the Monrovia Strategy and the Lagos Plan of Actions a Regional Approach to Economic Decolonization.” The paper covered the role of Economic Commission for Africa in developing alternative development strategy that is genuinely African oriented for the stages of African involvement in the world economy. The paper also examined The ECA`s revised framework of principles for implementation of the New International Economic Order. Its importance is that, it provided the main intellectual and theoretical foundation for preparation of the Monrovia Strategy and Lagos Plan of Action, including the final Act of Lagos. The paper also explored the ECA and Africa`s development, 1993 to 2008 is one of the major contributions of the secretariat of the Commission to its silver Jubilee Anniversary Celebration, which was to realize the commission objectives, the most important among these is sound and efficient economic management.
