The relationship between Africa and its development partners is
undergoing radical change. At the centre of this new relationship
is the establishment by Africans of the African Union, the NEPAD
initiative and the African Peer Review Mechanism. With these
new foundations, and with the capacities available in the UN
Economic Commission for Africa, the African Development Bank
and the emerging active role of sub-regional bodies, Africans
themselves are taking charge of defining, analysing and meeting
the major challenges facing the continent.
