Emerging issues in science and technology for Africa's development : science, technology and innovation for meeting key MDGs

Abstract

Achieving the Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and sustainable development in Africa constitute major challenges including poverty reduction, food security, health, water and sanitation, productivity and international competitiveness. Africa is largely failing to meet these challenges, which cannot be met without a much greater use of science and technology, which in turn requires strengthened scientific, technological and innovation capabilities on the African continent.
