ECA at 40 : historical pageant in tribute to the past, in celebration of the present, with hope and commitment to the future!!

Abstract

The ECA, like its sister organizations. was established with the basic aim to assist in raising the level of economic activity in the region, and to maintain and strengthen the economic relations of the countries in the region, both among themselves and with other countries of the world. Its terms of reference also included a provision for dealing with the social aspects of economic development and the interrelationship between economic and social factors, thus empowering the Commission to make recommendations on any matters within its competence to the Governments of the region and the specialized agencies concerned.
