Road traffic accident is the cause of significant loss of human and economic resources worldwide. About 1.2 million people die and 50 million are injured annually. More than 85% of these casualties occur in low and middle in-come countries. It also imposes a huge economic burden on developing economies, amounting to 1-2% of GNP in most countries. Looking at the extent and magnitude of the problem, the United Nations General Assembly has adopted three resolutions, in which it called on member states, WHO, the five regional commissions, and international organizations t0 address the global road safety crisis. In response to this, many road safety initiatives are being undertaken at international, continental, regional, national levels in order to improve the road safety situation.
