Botswana has established the SmartBots Lab Centre of Excellence to drive innovation and digital transformation, positioning itself as a leader in the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). Aligned with Botswana’s SmartBots 4IR Strategy and the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), the lab aims to foster an inclusive digital economy through collaboration between government, academia, and the private sector. Supported by UNECA, the initiative focuses on developing disruptive technologies, protecting intellectual property, and promoting local digital enterprises. The SmartBots Lab Governance Framework ensures effective management, risk mitigation, and stakeholder engagement. Key focus areas include mining, Indigenous knowledge, biotech, ICT, and clean tech. By nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship, Botswana seeks to boost economic growth, retain talent, and advance its Vision 2036.
