Promoting inclusive green industrialization in Africa through sustainable infrastructure, agropoles and effective financial markets

Abstract

The conference document explored the Private Sector Development and Finance Division of the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) addresses Africa’s pressing challenges including post-COVID-19 recovery, climate change impacts, and disruptions from the Ukraine war by fostering sustainable economic transformation. Through interventions in infrastructure, agriculture, energy, and innovative finance, the Division aims to enhance private sector investment, land tenure security (particularly for women), and climate-resilient policies. It prioritizes three outcomes: improving infrastructure and agricultural investment via policy reforms, scaling innovative finance mechanisms for development needs, and strengthening member states’ capacity to refine business environments. By tackling commodity market shocks, food insecurity, and low climate adaptability, the ECA supports Africa’s transition toward green, inclusive industrialization and sustainable economic growth, ensuring alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) while attracting critical investments.
