The draft resolution presented at the forty-first meeting of the Committee of Experts of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development addresses the critical energy access deficit in Africa, where over 589 million people lack electricity and 970 million lack clean cooking solutions. It emphasizes the urgent need for secure, affordable, and reliable energy to foster industrialization, economic growth, and poverty reduction while acknowledging the significant investments required for a just energy transition. The resolution calls for collaboration among the Economic Commission for Africa, the African Union, and other stakeholders to develop national energy transition plans, establish a continental energy security policy framework, and mobilize private sector investments. It also highlights the importance of developing green technologies and enhancing regional cooperation to ensure a sustainable energy future for Africa.
