Concept note: Regional Committee of United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Africa

Abstract

The Tenth Meeting of the Regional Committee of the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Africa (GGIM-Africa) will be held in hybrid format in Addis Ababa from 30 October to 1 November 2024. This meeting, in conjunction with the Ninth Session of the Statistical Commission for Africa and the Fourth Expert Forum for Producers and Users of Disaster-related Statistics, aims to foster dialogue and knowledge-sharing among policymakers, researchers, and professionals involved in geospatial information, statistics, and disaster risk management. The event will explore key issues such as geospatial policy, governance, technological innovations, and the integration of geospatial data for sustainable development. By promoting collaboration, the meeting will strengthen synergies across the geospatial, statistical, and disaster-risk management sectors, with a focus on supporting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) in Africa.
