Africa SDGs Progress Report: Is the Continent on Track to Achieve the 2030 Goals?

Abstract

The Africa Sustainable Development Goal Progress Report critically examines the continent’s efforts in achieving the SDGs, acknowledging some progress, particularly in health (Goal 3) and access to clean water (Goal 6). However, progress in other areas remains insufficient, emphasizing that incremental actions are inadequate to bridge the gap between current realities and SDG aspirations. A key challenge highlighted is the lack of reliable data for tracking progress in gender equality (Goal 5), sustainable cities (Goal 11), responsible consumption (Goal 12), life below water (Goal 14), and strong institutions (Goal 16). Addressing these gaps requires investment in national statistical systems and improved data collection. The report serves as both a reflection and a call to action, urging governments, civil society, and development partners to intensify their efforts. While achieving the SDGs remains a formidable challenge, determination and collaboration can place Africa on a sustainable development path by 2030.
