Bridging the Gap Between Research and Policy in West Africa-Exploring the Views and Experiences of Researchers and Policymakers

Abstract

This study explores the research-to-policy gap in West Africa, examining the perspectives of researchers and policymakers on evidence-based policy making (EBPM). Using a mixed-method approach, findings reveal that while a majority of researchers perceive their work as policy-relevant and influential, key challenges such as ineffective communication, limited engagement, and resource constraints hinder EBPM. The study underscores the need for increased investment in research, stronger researcher-policymaker partnerships, and enhanced capacity in research communication and stakeholder engagement.
