A mission was undertaken to Brazzaville, Congo from 20 to 23 May 1996 to participate in the Consultative Meeting on Follow-up to the Fourth World Conference on Women organized under the auspices of UNESCO. The meeting was convened as follow-up to the decision of the UNESCO Director General to form a network of three eminent personalities from Sub-Sahara Africa, selected on individual and linguistic basis, namely Ms. Marie Therese Avemeka, Minister of Integration of Women in Development, Congo (francophone), Ms. Gertrude Mongella, Secretary General of the Fourth World Conference on Women, Tanzania (anglophone), Ms. Francisca Pereira, Guinea Bissao (lusophone), for advising the organization on the best way to ensure adequate follow-up to Beijing recommendations related to UNESCO field of activities.
