Issues paper : fostering recovery and transformation in Africa to reduce inequalities and vulnerabilities

Abstract

The paper presents the status of poverty and inequality in Africa in the context of overlapping global shocks and outlines compounding factors as well as promising opportunities for African countries to pursue a people-centered recovery. The purpose of the present paper is to identify the key issues related to poverty and inequality that will inform the proceedings of the forty-first meeting of the Committee of Experts and the fifty-fifth session of the Conference of African Ministers of Finance, Planning and Economic Development, the theme of which is “Fostering Africa’s recovery and transformation to reduce inequality and vulnerability”.
