Abstract

The creative industries represent untapped economic potential and make a positive contribution to the innovation economy and other sectors of the economy through supply chain effects. It creates jobs, attract investments, generate tax revenues, and stimulate local economies through tourism and consumer purchases. The creative economy contributes over 6.1% to global gross domestic product (GDP), averaging between 2% and 7% of national GDPs around the world. According to UN estimates, the creative economy industries generate annual revenues of over $2 trillion and account for nearly 50 million jobs worldwide. In the two largest economies of the hemisphere, Brazil and the United States, the creative industries are estimated to account for over 10% of GDP.
