Daily COVID-19 update 23 January 2022. 374 new confirmed COVID-19 cases were reported in the last 24 hours (positivity rate of 7.8%) bringing the total confirmed cases to 462,107 as of 23 January 2022. 8 new deaths reported adding to total 7,244 deaths reported since the beginning of the outbreak with a case fatality rate of 1.57%. 386,152 (83.6%) cases have recovered, however 902 confirmed cases are undergoing treatment in treatment centers of which 364 are severe. 4,805 RT-PCR and Ag-RDT tests were conducted in the last 24 hours, giving a cumulative 4,297,866 RT-PCR and Ag-RDT tests conducted. Still a variant of concern as designated earlier and has been detected in the country. The overall risk related to Omicron variant remains very high due to. Global risk of COVID-19 remains very high overall . Current data indicate Omicron has significant growth advantage over Delta variant, leading to rapid spread. Rapid increase in cases may lead to increase in hospitalizations, may pose overwhelming demands on health care systems and lead to significant morbidity, particularly in vulnerable populations.
