Report of a mission to Bureau of Statistics of Lesotho on national accounts development : 22 March - 4 April 1995

Abstract

The mission was received by senior officials of the UNDP and the Director of the BOS at the start of the mission, and subsequently worked in close collaboration with its counterparts, the Chief of Economic Statistics Division (ESD) and the Chief of National Accounts Section (NAS) of the BOS. In addition to collaboration with officials of the BOS, the mission also made very useful contacts with senior officials and experts of the major users and other producers of statistics, including the Planning Office of the Ministry of Planning and Statistics, the Research Department of the Central Bank of Lesotho, the Income Tax Department of the Ministry of Finance, the Customs Administration, as well as the Ministry of Trade and Industry. The mission was able to obtain information at first hand on the users' needs and priorities for different fields of statistical data, and the current availability of data sources and their constraints.
