The limited generation of climate information and inadequate uptake and use of existing climate information services continue to impede policy development and decision-making in Africa. Moreover, large numbers of climate-vulnerable people in Africa, particularly women, are unable to benefit from climate information services. To enhance women’s resilience to climate change, it is crucial that concerted efforts are made to strengthen their capacity to generate, access and use those services. In recognition of the limited involvement of women in the generation, uptake and use of climate information services and to facilitate efforts to address the impact of climate change, ACPC and the ECA African Centre for Gender organized a two-day consultative workshop to discuss the gender, climate change and development nexus and explore ways of enhancing women’s role in the production, uptake and use of climate information services both at the policy level and on the ground. The workshop was attended by women scientists, academics, researchers and opinion leaders from across Africa and by men with strong engagement and knowledge of gender mainstreaming and climate change.
