The Economic Commission for Africa conducted a study on digital trade regulatory integration in 11 African countries, including Kenya. The Commission provided training to the consultants who undertook the research, which involved collecting data on restrictions on digital services trade and digital trade integration. The research found low levels of restrictions on digital trade, which was not surprising since Kenya is considered an African digital innovation hub. The key findings of the research are important for informing national policy interventions to tackle barriers to digital trade. Digital trade integration focuses on five pillars: digital trade-related foreign investment; cross-border data policies; domestic data policies; intermediary liability and content access; and online sales and transactions.
