This edition features articles on: the impacts of the pandemic on the tourism and hospitality sector, with three case studies; household welfare and social protection; entrepreneurship, industrialization and the role of bilateral trade agreements in facilitating industrial development in the context of COVID-19; and migration. In addition, the role of the African Development Bank in reinventing and re-imagining itself in the COVID-19 era is examined. The present study therefore examines the responses to and impacts of COVID-19 on the hospitality business in Ibadan in order to suggest policy recommendations for renewed growth of the hospitality industry in Nigeria. The objectives are to: examine the adoption and practice of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control guidelines in reducing the spread of COVID-19 in the hospitality industry; investigate the official conduct of staff during the pandemic; investigate the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the hospitality industry; identify coping strategies instituted by investors; and recommend policies on the hospitality industry to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. The paper is divided into five sections. The first gives the background. The second provides an insight into work on past social epidemics and their effects on the hospitality industry. The third discusses methodology, while the fourth presents the data. The fifth section concludes the paper.
