Sudan: eonomic and soical survey 1996/97

Abstract

According to official estimates, Sudan's economy recorded a slight improvement in 1997 as compared to 1996 reaching a growth rate of nearly 5 percent. However, other estimates tend to show that the overall performance might have been lower than the official figure suggests. Indeed, some other estimates show that economic performance in 1997 declined relative to 1996 from a GDP growth rate of 4.7 percent to a growth rate of around 4 percent.
