Abstract
The Ad Hoc Expert Group Meeting on Skill Deficiencies in the Mineral Sector of Eastern and Southern Africa was held in Harare, Zimbabwe, from 3 to 5 September, 1996. It was convened in accordance with the programme of work and priorities of the Lusakabased MULPOC approved by the Nineteenth Meeting of the ECA Conference of Ministers of Economic Planning and Development. The meeting was called to discuss the findings of the survey undertaken by the Lusaka MULPOC. The survey had identified major weaknesses in the stock of skills and competencies in the mineral sector of the sub region and further assessed the internal capacities in the delivery systems. The meeting was organized in association with the Mining Sector Coordinating Unit of SADC and was co-hosted by the Chamber of Mines of Zimbabwe and the Ministry of Mines of the Republic of Zimbabwe.
