The United Nations Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) regularly carries out policy analysis in support of economic and social development activities in Africa. In this regard, its Transport, Communications and Tourism Division (TCTD) is currently undertaking a study on Private Sector Participation in Transport and Communications in Africa. As part of this study, several countries were selected as case studies for specific priority areas; the United Republic of Tanzania was selected for its recent experience in the reform of its communications sector and introduction of private sector participation in the development of telecommunications in the country.
