Abstract
On March 13 2018 the world celebrated 30 years of the world wide web, arguably the greatest invention of this century. It has completely changed the way that we work, play and live and many of us in this room today cannot imagine life without the internet and the web. On March 12 2019, to celebrate the 30 anniversary of the web, Sir Tim Berners-Lee, the founder of the world wide web, took a historic 30 hour journey starting at the European Centre for Nuclear Research (CERN) in Geneva where he invented the web and ending in Lagos, Nigeria on March 13 where he said, profoundly, that Nigeria (and I take Nigeria as a proxy for Africa) represents both the present and future of the web.
