Developments in space geodesy and improvements in electronic data gathering equipment has revolutionized surveying and mapping practices. Satellite positioning systems and automatic total stations have increased the rate at which surveys can be carried out and the volume of data that can be collected in a short span of time. Computerization of the mappuig process, development of GIS/LIS and digitizing tables have also increased the rate at which maps and associated data can be produced.
