Dans le cas du Bassin du Sénégal plusieurs régions, appartenant à quatre états sont intéressées. Les répercussions d’un aménagement se feront sentir sur tous les aspects de la vie sociale. Il en résulte non seulement une augmentation du niveau de vie par suite de l’accroissement de la productivité et de l’introduction de nouvelles cultures, mais également un désenclavement de la région, une modification de l’organisation du travail et d’autres changements qui auront des répercussions profondes sur le mode de vie traditionnel de la population vivant dans le bassin.
