La quintessence de la planification scientifique est d’origine économétrique. On entend actuellement par économétrie une combinaison de l’économie et de la statistique mathématique appliquée à des données statistiques de nature économique. On peut observer une progression de la science économique vers la sociologie, c’est-à-dire que l’économie exploite de plus en plus les domaines récents et complexes de la sociologie. Il en résulte une accentuation de l’aspect psychologique de l’économie, par exemple lorsqu’elle tient compte des éléments abstraits que représentent les besoins et les comportements humains.
