The purpose of the Project is to assist, in a transitional period of one year between its second and third phases of activities, the African Institute for Economic Development and Planning, referred to as the "Institute" , set up by Resolution 93 (VI) of the Economic Commission for Africa (hereinafter referred to as "E.C.A.") as an autonomous institution under the aegis of the E.C.A. This project, therefore, was financed under the Plans of Operation signed on 23 November 1964 and 20 March 1975. The Institute is intended to be a permanent body, as provided by Resolution 93 (VI), and accordingly during the second period of U.N.D.P. assistance the Governing Council actively explored possibilities of future financing of the Institute after the U.N.D.P. assistance has ceased. A copy of Resolution 93 (VI) is attached to this Plan of Operation as Annex III.
