This paper examines the food problems and food aid in world wide. In Africa, at least South of the Sahara, the food problem is not as great as it is in some countries in Asia or Latin America or even in the countries of Mediterranean Africa. Multilateral food aid presents important advantages over bilateral aid. First of all, there is no political motivation for it; then, small and occasional donors find it a suitable machinery for the disposal of their unwanted surpluses; and the comparatively large numbers of donors is to some extent a guarantee that the types of food made available to the world food programme are sufficiently varied to allow the establishment of meaningful rations in food aided projects.en
