The purpose of this particular paper is to discuss the impact of the reforms on the financial sector, and in particular their impact on the commercial banks, all three sets of reforms have had important repercussions in the banking sector, culminating in the announcement at Mulungushi Hall that the government would take 51% of the two banks that dominate Zambian commercial banking. As we have seen, that takeover attempt failed. Instead, the banks were required to incorporate locally, with a minimum capital of K2mn. for each bank, and with half the directors to be resident in Zambia.
