Abstract
Report to member States on Modernization and Harmonization of Port Statistics and Introduction of Performance Indicators for Eastern and Southern African Ports in Collaboration with UNCTAD and the Port Management Association of Eastern and Southern Africa. The Port Management Association of Eastern and Southern Africa which was formed in 1973 under the auspices of the Economic Commission for Africa pursues efforts to improve the performance of all the ports at all levels. The Port management Association of Eastern and Southern Africa has organized several meetings, and the last one was held in November 1981 in Djibouti. The objectives of the assistance on modernization of port statistics and introduction of performance indicators in Eastern and Southern African ports are to: Establish a permanent unit in each port of the subregion, which will be capable of compiling the necessary statistics required for operational and planning purposes; Harmonize the statistical information and present common performance indicators in all ports of the subregion.
