Centers of excellence in health innovation in Africa : health innovation for development

Abstract

The African Network for Drugs and Diagnostics Innovation (ANDI) aims to create a sustainable platform for health innovation in Africa, addressing the continent's health needs through collaboration and capacity building. Established in 2011, ANDI recognized 38 Centres of Excellence (CoEs) across Africa, focusing on various health product areas including drugs, vaccines, and diagnostics. This document outlines the selection process for these CoEs, their roles in supporting ANDI's vision, and profiles of each institution, highlighting their expertise and contributions to health innovation. The CoEs serve as critical hubs for research, training, and technology transfer, fostering local innovation and addressing diseases prevalent in Africa. The initiative is supported by various international partners, including the World Health Organization and the European Commission, emphasizing the importance of collaboration in enhancing health outcomes across the continent.
