This paper tries to analyze how the Kenya economy was affected by the economic crisis partly triggered by the 1973 global oil crisis, its attempt to deal with the crisis through structural adjustment programme and other measures, and country’s ability to provide various social services to the people. The analysis of Kenya’s economic record during and before the crisis is useful in several ways in an attempt to understand the causes and cures of the economic crisis in which virtually all countries in the African region find themselves today.
