Policy analysis and advocacy lies at the very core of the mandate of the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA). In that regard, ECA seeks to provide its member States with sound and robust recommendations for addressing their development challenges. To date much of this advice has been given through flagship reports such as the annual Economic Report on Africa (ERA), the African Governance Report (AGR) or the Assessment of Regional Integration in Africa (ARIA) which present a detailed evaluation of the important trends on the continent and offer policy prescriptions for tackling major issues such as how to improve macroeconomic management and governance or how to advance the integration agenda. It is a collection of short policy briefs that highlight ECA’s positions on issues ranging from agricultural
transformation to small-scale mining and the World Trade Organization (WTO) process. It is intended to
serve as an easy reference guide to these issues. It is our hope that it will be accessed by policymakers not only to get an update on the Commission’s views on their particular area of concern/interest but that it will also avail them with the opportunity to get quickly briefed on many of the issues that their colleagues may be working on which they have not had the time to investigate in much detail.
