The African Development Forum (ADF) 1999, held from October 24-28 in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, focused on "The Challenge to Africa of Globalisation and the Information Age." The forum aimed to develop and support African initiatives essential for shaping the continent's information age, culminating from three years of efforts to build an African information society. It provided a platform for African policymakers to assess opportunities, confront challenges, and devise a strategic action plan for the information age. The event featured focus groups on gender, youth, the private sector, and the African diaspora, allowing these groups to express their perspectives and shape recommendations. Keynote presentations and panel discussions addressed themes such as globalization, information economy, governance, and infrastructure, with participation from various stakeholders, including government officials, private sector representatives, and civil society.
