Abstract
The Writing for ECA style guide, developed by the Economic Commission for Africa (ECA), serves as a standardized reference to streamline in-house writing and publishing practices. Aligned with United Nations editorial policies, this guide aims to enhance efficiency by reducing time spent on editing and restructuring documents while ensuring consistency across various publication formats, including print and digital media (websites, CD-ROMs). Compiled by the Communication Team (CT), it assists ECA staff, consultants, and resource persons in drafting, editing, proofreading, and designing documents. The guide builds upon the United Nations Editorial Manual (1983) while incorporating modern advancements in digital publishing and terminology management, such as the UNTERM database. Emphasizing neutrality, accuracy, and cultural sensitivity, it ensures that ECA publications maintain a factual, impartial, and non-discriminatory tone, suitable for translation into English, French, and Arabic. The document also highlights the importance of adhering to UN branding, citation standards, and dissemination protocols.
