Inter agency workshop on implementing integrated water resources management in Africa: workshop report

Abstract

Report of the Inter Agency Workshop on Implementing Integrated Water Resources Management in Africa. The proposed Workshop is a joint activity of the following member agencies ofthe Inter-Agency Working Group for Water in Africa (IGWA): The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) and its Sub-Regional Development Centre for West Africa (SRDC-WA). The African Development Bank (AIDB). The Regional Office for Africa of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAORoA). The Regional Office for Africa of the World Health Organization (WHO- RoA). The IGWA is the African counterpart ofthe United Nations Administrative Committee on Co-ordination Sub Committee on Water Resources but expanded to include all African Regional Organizations dealing with Water Resources Development and Management and River Basin Organizations. Its main objective is to facilitate African development in a coordinated manner with as little duplication of agency efforts as possible. Some Objectives of the Workshop are To create awareness of the African Water Vision 2025 and the adoption of the concept of integrated Water Resources Management (IWRM) in the formulation and implementation of Water Resources Development Plans for Poverty Alleviation in Africa. In addition, to disseminate to Policymakers and Water Professionals in West Africa the documentation of the lGWA member organizations related to IWRM.
