The urban transport sub-sector consists different elements that include: urban public transport such as on-street systems; mixed on-street and off-street systems, and off-street systems; the urban road system; traffic management systems; non-motorized transport systems; and urban transport institutions. The main purposes of efficient urban transport system are increase in commercial and labour market efficiency, increased access to amenities, and make changes in the scale and form of urban agglomerations possible, all without undue adverse effects on the environment. Due to the recognition of these crucial roles of urban transport the second United Nations Transport Decade in Africa had considered it as one of the major transport sub-sectors. As a result, seven urban transport projects had been approved from four different African countries to be implemented during the decade program. This report deals with the final evaluation of the implementation of these projects.
