The Government of the Republic of Zambia (GRZ), which chairs the SADC Employment and Labour Sector, invited the ECA Sub-Regional Development Centre for southern Africa to participate at 2001 SADC. Employment and Labour Sector (ELS) Meeting of Ministers and Social Partners. The SRDC-SA actively participated at the SADC Regional Seminar on Labour Migration which the ELS Coordinating Unit(CU)organized in collaboration with the International Organization for Migration (IOM), in Lusaka, Zambia in March 2000. At that seminar the SRDC-SA presented a paper. The present invitation to the SADC ELS Namibia was a reaction of continuation of the relation and collaboration between ELS CU and the SRDC-SA. The ELS meeting is of tripartite nature and each country's delegation is to have a representative from government, the workers and employees. The meeting is convened annually. The meeting of Ministers and Social Partners was preceded by a meeting of Senior Officials and Social Partners.
