The third African Highway Maintenance Conference organized by the Economic Commission for Africa in collaboration with the Governments of the United Kingdom, France and the Federal Republic of Germany and Socialist Ethiopia, was held at Addis Ababa from 20 to 23 September 1982. The third African Highway Maintenance Conference considering the importance of road maintenance to all African countries and recommends that separate funds for road maintenance are earmarked at national and international levels. The Conference also recommends that African countries co-operate more closely with each other in matters of regional or subregional interest, such as the exchange of research results on all aspects of road maintenance and construction and sharing the use of expensive pavement evaluation equipment.
