Abstract
The document "Structural Changes in Ports and the Competitiveness of Latin American and Caribbean Foreign Trade" explores the evolution of port infrastructures and their impact on trade competitiveness. It highlights the historical development of ports, the need for institutional reforms, and the role of modern technologies in enhancing productivity. The study emphasizes the importance of privatization, deregulation, and the integration of port services to support export-oriented macroeconomic policies. Key recommendations include improving port labor regimes, adopting electronic data interchange (EDI) systems, and fostering cooperation between ports to achieve greater efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
