The 24th Council Meeting of the Port Management Association of Eastern and Southern Africa (PMAESA) was held in La Réunion from 11–17 October 1998, hosted by Port Réunion. The event included the annual Council Meeting, an Interviewing Panel session to select a new PMAESA Secretary-General, and an Extraordinary Executive Meeting (EXCO) to endorse the panel’s choice. The Economic Commission for Africa (ECA) participated in both the Interviewing Panel and EXCO. Concurrently, the triennial Congress of the International Maritime Convention for Exchanges and Contacts (CIMER) took place, focusing on maritime transport challenges in Eastern/Southern Africa and Indian Ocean Island ports. The meetings drew 51 participants, with agendas and attendee details provided in annexed documents. Key outcomes included the selection of a new Secretary-General and strategic discussions on regional port and maritime issues.
