Experience of agricultural and rural cooperatives in socialist countries in Africa

Abstract

The main task of this paper will be to review experiences in several of the socialist countries in Africa. Any evaluation of these experiences will of course consider how far their objectives have been realized, although that in turn will raise the issue as to whether these goals are not in part contradictory. The records of different kinds of co-operatives created in different circumstances and, to point in conclusion to some positive lessons from experience, to identify the conditions under which some of the objectives may to some extent be realized. Rural and agricultural cooperatives can be found throughout the countries of Africa.
